Finding a venue that works for more than the photographs
Finding a beautiful wedding venue in Kuala Lumpur isn't particularly difficult.
Finding one that works for the wedding you're actually planning can be.
A Malaysian Indian wedding may need room for a mandap or stage, an early ceremony, particular catering arrangements, extensive décor installation, musicians, several outfit changes—or a ceremonial fire.
And a ballroom advertised for 700 guests may not necessarily seat 700 guests once your actual wedding setup is inside it.
So rather than looking only at chandeliers and photographs, we researched highly reviewed Kuala Lumpur venues and then looked at the wedding information published by the venues themselves.
This isn't a ranking from first to eighth.
It's a shortlist designed to help you work out which venues are worth investigating for your celebration.
A note before you shortlist: Ratings and review counts change over time. Venue capacities also depend on room configuration, stage size, décor and production requirements. The figures below reflect information available during our research and should always be confirmed directly with the venue before booking.
Venues with dedicated Indian wedding offerings
For couples planning an Indian wedding, there is an obvious advantage when a venue already acknowledges those celebrations in its wedding offering.
It doesn't guarantee that every requirement will be possible, but it gives you a much better place to begin the conversation.
EQ Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur City Centre
Google rating at time of research: 4.7/5 · 3,200+ reviews
Venue type: Luxury hotel
Notable space: Diamond Ballroom
Published banquet capacity: 350 in the Diamond Ballroom's current capacity table
EQ is one of the most interesting venues on this list because we don't have to infer its interest in Indian weddings.
The hotel currently promotes an Indian Symphony wedding offering and has several spaces that can accommodate different parts of a celebration.
Its Diamond Ballroom is a 720.9 m² pillarless, two-tier ballroom with a 9.1-metre ceiling and integrated 4K LED walls. EQ also offers smaller spaces including the Conservatory, which lists a banquet capacity of 150, as well as the Garden and Sky51.
That range could be useful for a couple considering more than one event within the same property rather than treating the wedding as a single ballroom reception.
Why we would shortlist it
The dedicated Indian-wedding offering is the biggest distinction.
It means couples can begin by asking EQ what that programme accommodates rather than having to explain an Indian wedding from the ground up.
There is one detail we would confirm carefully: EQ's current Diamond Ballroom page contains differing capacity references—its description mentions a larger figure while the published banquet table lists 350. Your actual setup may change capacity further.
Ask before you book: Can the ballroom accommodate your particular mandap or stage configuration? Is a ceremonial fire permitted? What does the Indian Symphony offering currently include, and how does your proposed setup affect final guest capacity?

Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur City Centre
Google rating at time of research: 4.6/5 · 5,600+ reviews
Venue type: Luxury hotel
Notable space: Grand Ballroom
Indian wedding offering: Indian Opulence / Indian Grandeur
Four Seasons is another particularly strong candidate because its Indian-wedding positioning is explicit.
The hotel currently publishes dedicated Indian Opulence and Indian Grandeur wedding offerings. Indian Opulence is designed for celebrations of approximately 300–500 guests and includes Indian set or buffet menu options. Four Seasons also states that its wedding offerings can accommodate vegetarian and vegan dietary requirements.
Its Grand Ballroom is approximately 770 m² and has a published banquet capacity of around 400, while smaller ballroom configurations are available for more intimate celebrations.
Why we would shortlist it
Here, the useful detail isn't simply that Four Seasons is a luxury hotel.
It is that couples can point to a current Indian wedding offering when discussing menus and celebration requirements.
For a wedding with several hundred guests, it deserves a conversation.
Ask before you book: What is currently included in the Indian wedding packages? How would a substantial mandap or stage change the Grand Ballroom's capacity? What ceremonial-fire arrangements, if any, can the hotel accommodate?

Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur
Jalan Sultan Ismail
Google rating at time of research: 4.6/5 · 11,000+ reviews
Venue type: Luxury hotel
Notable space: Grand Ballroom
Published Grand Ballroom banquet capacity: 1,440
For a particularly large guest list, Shangri-La immediately becomes interesting.
Its published event-space information lists the Grand Ballroom at 1,440 guests in banquet configuration. Other spaces include Sabah at 600, Sarawak at 400 and the Junior Ballroom at 400.
The hotel also participates in Shangri-La's Bandhan Indian-wedding offering, which explicitly positions the property for Indian celebrations and discusses incorporating cultural traditions into the wedding.
Why we would shortlist it
Scale.
If your guest list has reached a point where many beautiful Kuala Lumpur ballrooms are simply too small, Shangri-La deserves attention.
Its Indian-wedding programme is another advantage because the conversation can begin with cultural requirements rather than only room dimensions.
But don't interpret “1,440 banquet guests” as automatically meaning 1,440 guests for your wedding.
A large mandap, stage, aisle, production equipment and décor can materially change the usable floor area.
Ask before you book: Request a floor plan based on your expected guest count and actual mandap/stage dimensions—not merely the ballroom's maximum banquet capacity.

Large Kuala Lumpur ballroom options
The next venues don't have the same current dedicated Indian-wedding information that we found for the three above.
That doesn't mean they aren't suitable.
It means you should ask more questions rather than assume.
Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur City Centre
Google rating at time of research: 4.6/5 · 7,300+ reviews
Venue type: Luxury hotel
Notable space: Grand Ballroom
Published Grand Ballroom banquet capacity: 700
Grand Hyatt offers a broad event portfolio rather than a single wedding room.
The hotel describes 13 wedding venues, while its approximately 1,045 m² pillarless Grand Ballroom has a published banquet capacity of 700. The Poolside Residence provides a different atmosphere for couples who don't want every part of the celebration to take place in a conventional ballroom.
Why we would shortlist it
The combination of a substantial pillarless ballroom and several additional event spaces gives couples flexibility.
That could matter if you're considering different environments for different parts of the celebration.
Ask before you book: Does the hotel permit the ceremonial elements required for your wedding? Ask specifically about fire, oil lamps, stage construction, external décor teams, Indian menu requirements and early access.

Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur City Centre
Google rating at time of research: 4.6/5 · 9,200+ reviews
Venue type: Luxury hotel
Notable space: Grand Ballroom
Current published maximum for Grand Ballroom: Up to 1,100 guests
Mandarin Oriental is another option for couples who need significant capacity in central Kuala Lumpur.
Its current celebration information lists the Grand Ballroom for up to 1,100 guests, alongside the Diamond Ballroom at 300 and Crystal Room at 100.
That variety means the property can potentially accommodate celebrations of substantially different scales.
Why we would shortlist it
Location and scale are the immediate strengths.
It is also a good example of why couples shouldn't rely on an old wedding article when choosing a venue: older Mandarin Oriental materials contain different capacity figures from the hotel's current information.
For Riya Invites, the current venue specification should always take precedence over an old roundup.
Ask before you book: If you're planning Indian catering or particular ceremonial requirements, ask the hotel to confirm the current options directly. Don't assume that a menu or wedding arrangement mentioned in an older brochure remains available.

The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur
KL Sentral
Google rating at time of research: 4.6/5 · 4,100+ reviews
Venue type: Luxury hotel
Notable space: Grand Ballroom
Largest published event capacity: Up to 1,380 depending on configuration
The St. Regis gives couples another substantial ballroom option, but with smaller spaces available within the same hotel.
Marriott's current event information lists 17 event rooms. The Grand Ballroom is the property's largest event space, while the Astor Rooms can be combined for smaller celebrations; the combined Astor configuration lists approximately 360 banquet guests.
Why we would shortlist it
The range between the Grand Ballroom and smaller rooms makes it worth considering when different events have very different guest counts.
The hotel also advertises personalised menu planning.
However, we did not find enough current first-party information to tell Riya Invites readers that St. Regis currently offers a dedicated Indian-wedding programme.
So we won't.
Ask before you book: Discuss Indian menu requirements, ceremonial fire, décor installation, stage construction and event timings directly with the hotel's wedding team.

For a more contemporary city celebration
W Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur City Centre
Google rating at time of research: 4.7/5 · 4,900+ reviews
Venue type: Contemporary luxury hotel
Notable space: Great Room
Published Great Room banquet capacity: 630
Not every couple wants the visual language of a traditional hotel ballroom.
W Kuala Lumpur's Great Room is approximately 1,026 m² and has a published banquet capacity of 630, with integrated event technology and a large LED wall. The hotel also has smaller Studio spaces and WET Deck, with its distinctive city and Petronas Twin Towers setting.
Why we would shortlist it
It gives this list a genuinely different aesthetic proposition.
For couples imagining a contemporary reception, after-party or another wedding event with strong production and city atmosphere, W may be worth seeing in person.
We did not find a current first-party Indian wedding programme comparable with EQ, Four Seasons or Shangri-La, however.
That makes the practical questions particularly important.
Ask before you book: Can the venue support the ceremonial requirements of the event you're planning—or would it make more sense for your reception rather than the religious ceremony itself?

A dedicated event-hall alternative
AWAN Space Heritage Hall
Sentul, Kuala Lumpur
Google rating at time of research: 5.0/5 · 3,200+ reviews
Venue type: Dedicated event and wedding hall
We deliberately didn't want this guide to become a list of eight luxury hotels.
AWAN Space Heritage Hall stood out in the venue search because of an unusually strong combination of rating and review volume: 5.0 from more than 3,200 reviews at the time we researched it.
That makes it worthy of a closer look for couples who would rather investigate a dedicated event hall than automatically begin with an international hotel.
But this is also where our research rule matters.
We were not able to verify enough detailed, authoritative first-party information about its current wedding capacity and Indian-ceremony arrangements to confidently publish those details.
So we're not going to fill in the blanks.
Why we would shortlist it
The customer-review signal is difficult to ignore, and a dedicated wedding/event venue may offer a very different proposition from a hotel.
But consider this one a venue to investigate, not one we're claiming has already met every Indian-wedding requirement.
Ask before you book: Request the current capacity and floor plan, package details, catering rules, parking arrangements, décor policy, setup hours and—if relevant to your ceremony—written confirmation regarding a ceremonial fire.
What to ask any Kuala Lumpur venue before paying a deposit
A beautiful ballroom tour can make it surprisingly easy to forget the questions that actually determine whether the venue works.
For an Indian wedding, we would take this list with you.
Can we have a ceremonial fire?
If your ceremony includes homa or agni, don't settle for “it should be okay.”
Ask exactly what is permitted.
The venue may have fire-alarm, ventilation, safety, insurance or local-authority requirements. Ask whether there are restrictions on the flame, fuel, location or duration and whether additional approval is required.
Get the answer confirmed as part of your venue arrangements.
What is the capacity with our actual mandap and stage?
A venue's maximum banquet capacity isn't necessarily your wedding capacity.
Show the venue approximately how large your mandap or stage will be.
Then account for:
- aisle;
- AV and production equipment;
- photography/video positions;
- family seating;
- buffet or service areas;
- dance floor where relevant;
- and circulation space.
Ask for a floor plan.
What are the catering rules?
Never assume.
Ask whether catering must be provided in-house, whether approved external caterers are permitted and what arrangements exist for Indian menus.
If vegetarian or vegan food matters to your family, discuss how it will be prepared and served—not merely whether one vegetarian dish exists.
How early can we enter the venue?
This matters for two completely different reasons.
Your decorators may need substantial installation time.
And your ceremony itself may begin early.
If your family or priest has selected a particular muhurtham, make sure the venue can actually accommodate the access and event timing required.
What can our decorators install?
Ask about:
- mandap and stage structures;
- rigging;
- suspended florals;
- candles and oil lamps;
- floor coverings;
- adhesives;
- large props;
- electrical supply;
- LED screens;
- and removal deadlines.
A design is only useful if the venue permits someone to build it.
Where will the couple and family prepare?
A bridal room isn't automatically large enough for the bride, makeup artist, photographer, saree dresser, relatives and an entire collection of wedding belongings.
See the room.
Ask when you get access to it.
And if both partners need preparation spaces, ask what the second room will be.
What happens with parking?
For a large local wedding, parking can affect the guest experience more than almost any decorative detail.
Ask about:
- number of spaces;
- valet;
- parking rates;
- validation;
- overflow parking;
- accessibility;
- and how guests actually reach the ballroom from the car park.
Don't shortlist a venue from photographs alone
Wedding photographs are designed to show a venue at its best.
Your job is to work out whether it functions at its best for your wedding.
Start with guest count.
Understand the ceremony.
Know what your families require.
Then compare the venues against those needs.
A 1,000-person ballroom isn't automatically better than a 400-person ballroom. A five-star hotel isn't automatically more suitable than a dedicated wedding hall. And a venue that has hosted hundreds of weddings may still need very specific instructions about yours.
Visit your shortlist in person.
Stand where the mandap might go.
Walk the route your parents and grandparents will take.
Look at the preparation rooms.
Find the lifts.
See the car park.
Ask what happens when the ceremonial fire is lit.
And only then imagine the flowers.
